It’s Afternoon Tea Week!

The perfect time to treat yourself to our samba afternoon tea

They have a national day of celebration for just about everything these days and this week’s is a festival we can really get behind. It’s about the most British celebration that you could possibly imagine ? Afternoon Tea Week.

So naturally we’ll be adding a Cuban spin to the proceedings by being the only restaurant in Liverpool to offer finger sandwiches and tea with a side order of samba dancing!

?Afternoon tea week

All of this week, from the 14th – 20th August is Afternoon Tea Week ? a week of celebrating that great British tradition of breaking the day up with a pile of cakes.

You may not know this but afternoon tea has been around since the 1840’s. Back in those days people didn’t bother with lunch (we know ? imagine) but the good old 7th Duchess of Bedford decided that she couldn’t make it from breakfast to her 8pm evening meal with nothing in between ? we hear your Duchess ? so she would retire to her rooms for a light snack.

The tradition we know and love today began when she decided to invite her friends round to join her for something to eat and a walk. Presumably there was a cake stand involved somewhere and the rest, as they say, is history.

Flash forward the best part of 200 years and restaurants in Liverpool and beyond are dedicating an entire week of the summer to honouring her tradition. Frankly, we feel that the woman who brought cake to a world without lunch deserves nothing less.

Samba afternoon tea

In honour of this British tradition and with a nod to to our Cuban routes, we bring you samba afternoon tea.

Our samba spin on the classic afternoon tea includes finger sandwiches, cakes, scones and can certainly include drinks (whether that be tea or something a little stronger from our selection). It’s on offer from 3-5pm every Saturday ? whether it’s an official afternoon tea week or not ? and our skilled samba dancers are on every week, performing and getting you on your feet, in lieu of the Duchess’s after snack stroll.

If you fancy joining us for an afternoon party please be sure to book in advance.
